Notes on April Fool

Star Date: 2 April, 3014

<*incoming transmission from Ash*>

Greetings!
As the whole MQ team is now aware it's dangerous to let me write stuff for releases. I volunteered to work on this release and wrote a script. All of us had a bunch of ideas and I tried to put as many of them into this. It had a LOT of stuff in it, like a LOT of new art stuff that had to be made and bunches of dialog. Lyris did an amazing job on the new backgrounds and some of the assets and Plasma worked on something cool for the second part. Mae also deserves major props for spending a LOT of time making the rest of the backgrounds and art assets and especially for building the whole quest and making it work. (Thanks again Mae!)
Part 1 is live now and Part 2 will be out as soon as it's ready.

Also the 4pri1 mech has been revived!

No More Back Arm Weapons

After listening to you on the forums, I have convinced the entire MechQuest team that you all hate back arm weapons with a passion.  I decided that there was no way we would release any more back arms. Not even one. Front arm weapons ONLY.  What would you think of removing all the existing back arms and converting the mecha chassis to equip one arm only?  Or do you think that would be underhanded...

Thanks, Blues. Also I would like to point out that I will be removing the April Fools shops in a few hours and this will also remove the St. Patrick's Day shops as well so this is your last chance to pick up the Korin Bag head and the Cloverblades! Hurry up. No guarantee on how long I'll leave them up because really it'll be whenever I remember to do it once I get home.

Also, if you go to Gark's Cantina, you may or may not spot a familiar face. However, that's all it'll be. You can't talk to the person.

Anyways, we'll be returning to Lagos briefly to help Braddock while Char continues to develop the wormhole device. As we speak, Warlic is asking around to see if anyone knows who the purple-haired girl is. After that venture, we will begin the next planet which should be a great amount of fun content that should remind everyone of the older days, yet carry the newer, slightly more serious storyline while also maintaining the puns (which you'll greatly notice on the planet after this next one) and overall humor as before.

On that note, hope everyone had a great weekend. I has a headache. Yes I said has. And yes this is the end of the Design Notes post for now. New post will come when I remove St. Patrick's Day and April Fools buttons.

Sound Engine Update

Finally, after weeks of planning, we've upgraded the sounds. We bumped the quality up from 4000hZ to 8000hZ. Sure it costs a few extra KB in bandwidth but it's easily better. Sounds are thicker with more bass and really, we're just proud of it. We're positive you will be too.

Warlic did a great job mi xing the sounds together and making them work in the game. Maegwyn and Charfade had some input as well. We know you'll like it.

Holidays...

I see everyone is freaking out that we haven't said much so I decided that while I'm still here at the Underground Lab today that I would go ahead and let you know what's going on.

First off, 2 holidays right next to each other. Both holidays appear to be things people want celebrated pretty badly. Unfortunately, coming up with a new mech in a week is flat out impossible with the current schedule everyone has. We're all working very hard on the next several releases already so that their content will be ready. Unfortunately, that leaves us little time for this week so to answer questions,

I will begin with no. There is no April Fools mecha this year. We thought about reviving one of the old ones but I think of those as extreme rares and I would be hesitant to rerelease those. The Easter mecha seem less-rare to me so for mechas this week, you'll be getting a revived Easter mecha. I don't think we've figured out which one yet and if we did, I've forgotten it since I'm trying to get a dozen other things in order.

I will continue by saying that there will still be an April Fools item and maybe some foolery going on. The item seems to be in demand but we'll see when it launches. Only thing we haven't decided is if we should roll the item at midnight tonight or Thursday at normal roll time, followed by the Easter stuff on Friday. So more to come on that.

I'm hoping to make it so the old Easter quests are replayable. I need to talk with Warlic about how to set that up because it seems like the Easter releases were set up in the most chaotic way possible.

That said, there will be a new, single fight Easter quest and it will have 2 rewards. One being the revived mecha, the other being a monster mecha.

And trust us when I say we're all well aware about how disappointed you will be since you've been expecting one all week. It just won't happen, at least not this week. If I were to try and compromise, I would suggest that we schedule an April Fools day mecha on May. And call it the "April Fools Edition Mecha Now in May" mecha. Any of you have thoughts on that? I'm perfectly willing to try and make a solution but thinking of us as realistic human beings, it just won't happen this week but I'm willing to work with you all on coming up with something as exciting.

On a lighter note, we're changing some sound effects soon. Don't be alarmed. I started playing with some audio tools and I figured out how to make them with more bass and they sound nice. However, feedback is always welcome and we'll change them back if you guys don't like them.

That's all I have to say right now, I think. So we apologize for the inconvenience (since I'm sure there is one) but let us know what you think about delaying an April Fools mech to a not-April-1st date.
