Happy New Year!

Greetings and salutations, friends! The New Year content is live! We has weapons designed by Minar and programmed by Vivi and entered into the DB via Maegwyn. I brought back the Firework Command game for all to play. All content New Years content is handled by Braddock Steel so go there! There is a new Fireworks show as well if you visit Braddock.

New Years Resolutions? I think the main one I'm focussed on right now is more storyline content. They may go fast but it should have lots of rich story content coming up in the next several months so that's my personal goal.

Anywho, need Nova Gems or want to earn Star Captain? Then check out Super Rewards at http://portal.battleon.com/store/offers.asp! It's like stealing but not!

Enjoy your New Years. I'm off to a little game night myself. Enjoyyyyyyyy!

One note, SC gifts will open tomorrow around noon (server time)!

Korin answers!

I figured, why not? Still not 100% awake yet.

skyvolt666 wants to know "basic stuff like hobbies and interests, what drew you towards AE, how it is to work on MQ, what other games you play, Book interests and such."

I like building mech models like Gundams and Virtual On. I have the Perfect Scale Wing Zero Custom. He was awesome to put together. I like to draw random silly things. Video games are my big thing though. When I first applied to AE, I never actually played any of the games but I wanted a fun animation job and I had gotten pretty good at Flash and AE liked what I could do and put me on MQ as a full time animator. It's been a blast working on MQ. I don't think I would change it. The main game types I play are First Person Shooters and Third Person Platformers/Action games. I don't read many books but I do watch a lot of movies, random TV shows and some anime here and there.

forumlogin wants to know "any video games you have or play, what you do in your spare time, where you live, can you dance at all (and if no make sure to post a video of you trying XD)."

I have and love Battlefield Bad Company 2 for the PC. I hardly get tired of it. Lately I've been heavily into Assassin's Creed Brotherhood's multiplayer for the 360. Used to be addicting to Battlefield 2142. I play Halo Reach every now and then. I live vaguely around the Tampa chunk of Florida which is very roughly where the Underground Lab is. I dance terribly. I felt bad at my wedding. Unfortunately I'm not sure I have video.

zeke50100 says "Your credit card numbers, social security numbers, address, personal email, phone numbe-

Oh. I meant your hobbies, what inspired you to love flash games in general, any childhood moments you'd like to share, and the general experience of working with others at AE ^_^ "

Video games, Mech model building, 3D Modeling. I've always loved flash games. I would play them when I was bored in college. I only took 2 classes for it though. 1 in programming and 1 in animation. Turns out that was enough for me to catch on though. When I was a kid, my mom always got bad reviews of me from the classroom. Well not really bad. They said I was good but very very concerned because I kept drawing pictures of stick figures having a ridiculously bloody war with each other. Otherwise I was a very good kid in class albeit easily distracted. Also, all the other kids were drawing the stick figure death scenes and I just wanted to come up with some funny scenarios. Working with AE is fun. Everyone's nice and willing to joke around. It's just a nice place to work at.

Griffin the awesome

What do you guys look like? I look like a chubby guy. Looks like I've drank beer for 20 years but I never have!
What's it like to work for MQ? Lots of fun. Great staff. Fun ideas. Great senses of humor.
What's your personality like? Goofy. I try not to be serious often or v ery upset. I figure getting upset over things won't make them better so I might as well toss out a joke and have fun in the situation.
What do you do in your free time? Games. Sometimes draw or 3D Model.
What's your favorite food? Tacos.
What's your favorite drink? Cherry Coke. Don't drink it much anymore. Makes me sad :[
Do you enjoy working for MQ? Absolutely. Can be stressful but it's mostly fun stuff.
How come all the staff are noobs in MQ? Character-wise? We're too busy making the game to play it D:
If you had 3 wishes, what would you wish for? More genies.
What's your favorite holiday? Halloween.
What's your favorite color? Green.
What's your favorite song? Currently digging the Sonic Colors theme song but it's hard to single out a song. It's probably an older Green Day song like Basketcase or an older Blink 182 song like Pathetic or something. Though I LOVE their cover of Dancing with Myself.
What's your favorite movie? I find that I can watsh Super Troopers constantly. I loved Flight of the Navigator when I was a kid. Rented every weekend. Should've bought it.
What's your favorite game? Battlefield Bad Company 2.
What's your least favorite food? Salad. Seriously? Lettuce? Lettuce tastes awful. It's the killer of flavor.
What's your least favorite drink? I guess alcohol. I'm dumb enough as it is.
What's your least favorite holiday? Valentine's Day. Kind of worthless.
What's your least favorite color? Orange?
What's your least favorite song? Almost every song on the radio. Daughtry frustrates me. My Chemical Romance 99% frustrates me. Fall Out Boy. That Delilah song. The song that starts out with that Brightest hour on my darkest day or something. 30 Seconds to Mars. All those bands make me hate music.
What's your least favorite movie? Avatar. Didn't see it in 3D because the 3D gimmick shouldn't make the movie. I'm also just not a fan of 3D movies to begin with because I hate playing the guessing game of whether a movie was shot for 3D or just made 3D in post. Plus, no matter what, I still see doubles of the image so the technology is still terrible and not worth the extra money so I didn't go see Avatar in 3D and it was a huge bore. The story worked when they were trying to make a peaceful resolve but once thatw as broken, they could've just made orbital strikes on the trees. I doubt the dragons and spears could fly through space.
What's your least favorite game? Back to the Future 3 for Genesis. Impossible.

Have you completed College? What did you major in?

Yes. Art Institute of Tampa for Game Art and Design. I chose that degree because initially I wanted to animate but I did want to learn a wide spectrum of things such as interactive animations (games) so I chose Game Art.

Do you have another job that you work in besides AE? If so what is it?

Do you work at the Underground Lab? If not have you ever visited or plan to visit it?

Yes I do. Monday through Friday usually.

What exactly is a bug?

A bug is when somewhere in the mountain of code that we've created, something doesn't work under a certain circumstance. Some things aren't a simple one line like "if click then do this". Some information needs to be stored in little data containers that don't exist or somehow get overwritten by other mountains of code that's trying to its own separate job. Sometimes it's just the tiniest spelling error or punctuation error.

How do you go about fixing a bug?

I find chunks of code where something happens and I put a trace command which will give a popup of whatever phrase I specify. If I type trace("Yeah"), it'll popup with Yeah. So if I have several of these lined up, I can have a cycle that starts with "Started" then I can have a "Checking" then I can have a "Running function" and a "End" and if the only popups I get are Started and Checking, then I know that wherever I put "Running function" is not being activated like I planned so then I go there and look for spelling errors or incorrect variables. Soemtimes it's just code that doesn't work as I would've hoped.

How do you keep the bug from reappearing?

Pretty much with the steps above I find what the issue is, fix the code, and upload it to the server. Hopefully it works. Some bugs are much more difficult than that. They basically include things like accidentally letting a player get ahead in the storyline because of a weird storyline check. But yeah. This will have to do for now.

What mecha anime do you guys usually watch? any favorites?

I don't watch too much anymore. I used to watch Sailor Moon (was actually my first 15 years ago) then Dragonball Z. Then I got in to Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, FLCL(one of my favorites), and Berserk(My favorite). There are some movies I like such as Summer Wars, Akira, The Girl Who Lept Through Time, Origin, Princess Mononoke, Armitage. Other random animes include Battle Angel Alita, Blue Submarine No. 6, Angel Sanctuary, Excel Saga, Love Hina, Black Lagoon, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi and probably a few others I know I'm missing.

How about we know what there favorite movie is or what thier favorite car is

I already mentioned favorite movie but I love the DeLorean. Back to the Future for the win!

is it hard to get used to making sure you use your game name in the DN`s and in forum posts etc.

It was at first but you can get used to it. I still slip up but luckilly I catch it before I hit publish.

Is there any release in the past you wish could have been handled differently now that you look back at it?

Probably Yokai. Yokai was where we realized that we need to tone down the scale of our releases. I probably would've tried pacing myself better so that we could at least have a good new temple zone each time rather than just doing the same thing over and over.

master mix

Honestly, not a bit. I mean, I guess I really liked Beast Wars but that would've been because it was 3D and it was the only thing on in the early morning that I would drag myself to school. But I haven't really cared for the new movies nor for any of the other shows. :X

if you get to do ONE evil thing in MQ , what would it be ? (Few hints : Make the RNG hate us , make us pay when dying ... or even worse ... make us pay every time we repair !!!! Did i just hear you laugh , is this an idea for you , he is certainly thinking about it !! MQ'ers ... RUN !!!) .

If I knowingly wanted to be evil. I could charge NGs for repairs, SC could only equip their mechs, RNG already hates everyone.

You said before that you are a casual gamer , so from one gamer to the other , what new and decent games would you recommend me ? (I would love anything like Assassins creed if you played it , but AC 2 or 3 isn't an answer , so don't take the easy way out) .

I wouldn't really call myself casual. I play pretty heavy games just not as often as I used to be able to. I loved Mirror's Edge. It has flaws but it's a rush. I loved Sonic Unleashed. The werehog levels weren't exciting but the gameplay at least worked so it wasn't blatantly annoying but they daytime levels were phenomenal and take some practice to make perfect, pretty runs. Sonic Colors as well. Just started playing that a coupld days ago on the Wii and I love it. Smash Bros Brawl, Halo Reach, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood's multiplayer, Battlefield Bad Company 2 for PC (favorite). Left 4 Dead 2 is fun. Actually just bought it for PC on Steam. Huge sale on it today. I also have it on Xbox though. Red Faction Guerilla was cool. Never finished it but it's cool. Definitely Half-Life 2.

But all seriously (Some general questions here) what sort of music do you listen to when making MQ ? And what FB games do you play while making them (The reason why we get late releases :P) .

I played Robot Unicorn Attack briefly as well as Snake but that was it. Lately I don't really play anything while working though I'll either listen to music like the Tron soundtrack, video game remixes from OCRemix.org, or random bands that I like.  Often it'll be the previous night of Conan or whatever movies or old shows I can stream on Netflix.

do you guys actually look like your characters in real life?

I kind of do I guess. Minus the bag. I have a belly similar to Korin's. Assuming he still has the belly. I can't remember.

And there you have it. Epically long DNs giving you a look into the bizarre and boring life of Korin! :D...

Buggy Monday on Tuesday and Specials and More

Buggy Monday on Tuesday: Vivi fixed the weapons & mecha model, and I was able to fix the starship item. Vivi & I are a great team but of course it's thanks to all of you for reporting the issues, and thanks to the Gremlins Archknights neodiabolus and Terosin for confirming/replicating them, along with their work on the forum.

  • Harvester Arms now have a Back Arm Graphic
  • Ice Harvester Mecha series now recognizes the caps to the defense and accuracy buffs
  • The Evil Jim Poster Portal now only works for the Starship Captain (same as the Mortis Map)

Korin tells me that he has questions on his Formspring about whether the heads on the Graupel and Droxal mechas have been fixed.  I haven't been able to find reports on the Gremlins forum and I suspect this bug may have been hanging around since last year with the original models.  So if you are trying to stun your opponent and you find that your mecha's head is attempting to stun you, please let us know the details at the above link, and meanwhile we'll be looking into what's going on with that.

Mecha and Weapons Specials:  Blues designed some nice specials for the new Star Captain and Nova Gem Ice Harvester mecha and the "broken-off" weapons for the non-Star Captains.  Vivi describes them:

Ice Harvester Mecha
The non-default pieces of it are identical to the weapons on the SC mecha
Specials are listed as SC (NG)

Front Arm: 2 hits
Hit 1: Chance for a crit, chance for +10 (+15) defense for three turns
Hit 2: Chance for +10 (+15) bonus, doesn't wear off and stacks with itself/other weapons from the mecha
Chance for a third shot that stuns the enemy if it hits

Back Arm: 2 hits
Hit 1: Chance for a crit, -15 (-20) bonus to the enemy for three turns
Hit 2: -50 (-70) defense to the enemy for three turns

Front Shoulder: 3 hits
All hits have a high crit chance
Each hit gives +5 (+8) Bonus, doesn't wear off and stacks with itself/other weapons from the mecha

Back Shoulder: 3 hits
All hits have a high crit chance
Each hit gives +5 (+8) Defense, doesn't wear off and stacks with itself/other weapons from the mecha

Head: 1 hit
Chance to deal 135% (150%) damage
Buff Over Time to Boost of +8 (+10) per turn for 5 turns
NG only: chance for +10 Bonus, doesn't wear off and stacks with itself/other weapons from the mecha

Body: 2 hits
Hit 1: Chance for a crit, chance to give +10 (+15) defense for 5 turns
Hit 2: Chance to give +10 (+15) defense for 5 turns (stacks with the first hit), chance for +10 (+15) Bonus, doesn't wear off and stacks with itself/other weapons from the mecha

New Year!  As 3010 draws to a close, on behalf of the entire MechQuest team I'd like to thank all of you for your loyal and continued support of the game!  Whether you started playing years ago or just discovered MQ today, we never forget that it is you who keeps us going!  Thank you so much for playing MechQuest!

Maybe you've already supported us by upgrading - Star Captains get exclusive giftbox weapons that will open on New Year's Day - there is still time to upgrade and get your own free giftbox weapons! Also as a way of thanking you for your support, this year we designed the Frostval Mecha "Ice Harvester" model for Star Captains and Nova Gems.  If you are non-Star Captain and/or don't have the Nova Gems for this, we did "break off" the head and arms so that you can get a 'taste' of what this Holiday mecha model has to offer.

AExtras and SuperRewards: You probably know about using AExtras to earn Nova Gems, but did you know that you can get BattleOn Game Points and use them toward Nova Gems or even to upgrade to Star Captain?  (Along with opportunities for all of our games, of course.)  Log in to the Portal Site to check out ways to earn BattleOn Game Points!  Click on the "Get Points" tab after you log in - SuperRewards is a fabulous opportunity with a selection of completely FREE offers.  It has its own tab on the Get Points page, so definitely give it a click!

Happy Holidays and stay tuned - we have more happening for the New Year!

You Asked and Maegwyn Starts Answering

The forum member skyvolt666 remembered a promise I made a long time ago, to have some Design Notes posts about the MQ staff.  The forum thread is here if you have some questions for us to consider.

Since I have some free time, and Vivi is busy with family (the first person from whom I was going to gather answers) - I'll just start answering some of the questions.

skyvolt666 wants to know "basic stuff like hobbies and interests, what drew you towards AE, how it is to work on MQ, what other games you play, Book interests and such."

  • I am interested in just about everything - I'm a terribly curious person.  If curiosity killed the cat, I have more than nine lives ... In any case, I read, write, play trumpet - just got a guitar for Christmas!! - I cook, garden, and take photographs.  I love to rollerblade, in a dancy kind of way rather than as a distance excercise.  I find languages fascinating and I have started making what starts out to be jewelry but ends up being more like art talismans (so far).  you can ask Char & Korin because I sent them one that was originally going to be a necklace for Char.  What drew me toward AE: My friend's son (who is also my friend) introduced me to Adventure Quest when I was sick - before MQ even existed - and I enjoyed the single-player aspect of the games along with the lightheartedness.  (Now that MQ exists, I also like how MQ mixes in some darker and more serious elements.)  The community drew me in, too.  Working on MQ is an amazing opportunity for me to learn new things and also to connect with the fantastic people on the team and players who participate on the forums and now I 'meet' you on facebook, twitter, and formspring. Sometimes it's stressful - which isn't all bad - I really love it and have really high hopes for MQ.  I used to play all the Diablo games but I just don't have time for games that don't allow for multi-tasking.  So right now if I'm not helping test one of the AE games I might be playing something on Facebook while working on MQ.  My book interests vary widely (comes of being interested in everything, you know...) but I'd have to say that right now I am reading and re-reading books by Diana Wynne Jones, trying to see what elements of those come together to make the stories so intensely magical and alive. That was a lot of questions in one!

forumlogin wants to know "any video games you have or play, what you do in your spare time, where you live, can you dance at all (and if no make sure to post a video of you trying XD)."

  • I have Hellgate, London, but sadly I have barely touched it.  I am a huge fan of Diablo II Lord of Destruction and once in a blue moon I will pull out a single-player character or even get online (although all my really great online characters expired).  It's hard to find people who don't want to rush through the game - and it's so hard to find time, period.  I was wanting to play Lord of the Rings Online but I never even got around to downloading it.  I will check out flash minigames now and then, but mainly my gaming energy gets focused on testing MQ, when it comes down to it.  In my spare time I love to listen to live music - I mentioned a lot of "hobbies" already.  I live in an Undisclosed Location in the US (not anywhere near the Secret Underground Lab).  I can dance and really love to, although complications from an illness in the past cause me to have to be careful-ish - and sometimes I 'pay for it' for the next day or so.  I don't mind being the only one on the dance floor, though.  I don't have video...

zeke50100 says "Your credit card numbers, social security numbers, address, personal email, phone numbe-

Oh. I meant your hobbies, what inspired you to love flash games in general, any childhood moments you'd like to share, and the general experience of working with others at AE ^_^ "

  • First off, to zeke I must say :P
  • - and then (see above for hobbies)!  What inspired me to love flash games in general... I suppose it was point-and-clicks, really.  Now we have infinite choices, but back "in the olden days" after I started with the 'install from a CD' PC games like Diablo, discovering that you could just play a little game in a browser window was an amazing revelation.  How can you NOT love flash games?  To veer WAY into another direction: childhood moments... dude, you had to ask the tough questions, didn't you?  You want something poignant and telling, don't you.  Something that will give you insight into who I am now, right?  Oh boy.  Ok, lessee... I can hardly remember last Friday.  I do remember that because I was so imaginative, my parents decided to call this one lamp "The Fib Lamp."  I was allowed to tell stories about what didn't really happen if I sat by The Fib Lamp.  It had a very pebbly texture.  I was a strange child. Next part of the question!  The general experience of working with others at AE is that they are really nice & helpful - a great community for sure!

So I answered some of the questions. Perhaps I will answer more later.  I'm hoping others will answer before I do, though.  Ok and also I'm really intimidated by this in a way... I want to tell you what you want to know.  I just don't want to say too little or too much.  Did I do ok?

Galactimecha, Z-Lushies, and more!

Several buttosn in Soluna will now take you to the updated town of Frostvale where, NSC players can FINALLY witness the awesomeness of Galactimecha! Only SC's will be able to continue playing as Galactimecha in the following quest though. These quests may seem easy on normal modes but I challenge you all to Xtreme. And on that note, good luck.

We fixed the missing Freeze Rays so you can now actually grab those again. We got our shop numbers confused and Mae and Vivi took care of that problem. They also handled all the weapon and mech coding with Blues' help for the specials. Thatw as all very helpful. Minar helped animate some of the enemy mech attacks so I could start on cutscenes which were overwelming and may be missing a key scene. Just know that yes, Mr. Z was directly involved with this. I wanted it to be subtle but now it may have been TOO subtle. May add an extra scene later.

Oh, and we have the SCM vectorized and being animated!

He doesn't have a name yet but it won't be a Steve Skysplitter. That said, some people mentioned they were hoping for more themed mechs. Feel free to post some SCM suggestions in terms of theme whether it be stat theme or like... cowboy themed (relax, just an example).

Some of you may comment on the release being kind of short but I personally love this release because it has a lot of replayability, especially if you post your scores against other players ( I really wish we had leaderboards). Also, these minigames took a lot of work and I'm going to try and get Warlic to do something fancy with them and I'm even playing around with modeling Galactimecha in 3D and we'll see if I can't get a simple Unity 3D project out for funsies. I'll probably lose steam on the project but it's a fun thing to keep my mind focused I guess.

Anywho, enjoy the release! It was stressful but this one was a lot of fun and I think it's Galactimecha's shining moment. Have some Happy Holidays for whichever holiday you may happen to celebrate, if none, enjoy your weekend. We out.

Forstval 2009!

Frostval 2009 is back up with many level 45 versions of things. Probably the more controversial and exciting thins, the Zorbo, is back up and will be up until Frostval 09 gets taken down. Currently the plan is to take it down with all of Frostval which is planned for the 9th.

Thanks much to the help of Maegwyn and Vivi for helping out these past couple weeks heavily, I've been able to make a really cool set of minigames that are as of now, completely done. I just need to animate the enemy mech (which will be a reward in the end) and do all sorts of cutscenes. It'll be maybe medium length but highly replayable and will also come with a starmap to replay it and maybe arcades for starships.

In January we'll be moving on to our next little planet which should be a few minigames with a boss battle followed probably by GEARS Games and then we'll be working more on the main storyline(Dragonoid Saga being the main portion of the storyline at this point), probably faster than previously anticipated which means the quest strings may be quicker but the content should be rich in story if done correctly. Recycled monsters may be used and we may start up the custom mech contests to make up for the lack of mechs. We're currently working on the SC mech for January and the Verified mech is nearing completion.

With Maegwyn getting much better at figuring out how quest files work, I may actually be able to have her develop simple quests or at least get them mostly setup for me very soon and with Vivi taking the mech and weapon programming off my back, we can have simple cutscenes to help the story and a higher volume of quests if everything works out. So 2011 could go very smooth.

More info on that as we get closer to it. I still need to come up with a New Years release which might just be the fireworks show and more weapons. We'll sees. Later all. Enjoy your weekend.

Coming soon!

I'm a split second from death for the 4th screenshot. It might not look too extreme but Xtreme mode is brutal and I've only gotten his health down to about 75% before dying.

I MAY eventually add an autofire but we'll see. I can say it's a safe bet that I will but I do have a lot needed and I'm not sure how difficult it'll be. The issue there is that I would have to make a very very very slight pause between shots to emulate clicking but you wouldn't end up losing accuracy in the process.

Anywho, it's looking good. Artix was surprised. Off to more! There is much to be done!

Previews and Frostval stuff!

Helloski. First off, I think this is something everyone will be excited about. First part of this first item is that the new Zorbo will be in a Santa outfit. Original Zorbo owners will have the original version. The naked version (as I call it) is permanently rare. And besides price, that's all we're changing. That's right. Un-nerfed. And now you're thinking "OMG BUT IT'S PROBABLY CRAZY EXPENSIVE NG ONLY!!" and you'd be wrong. There is an NG option which will cost 594 NGs. However, for you Star Captain players, it will only cost you a mere 10,000 credits. There is no difference between the 2 versions. One is NG so that NSC players can buy it and there is a credits version which isn't even that expensive, that SC players get easily. The Zorbo will be 100% in it's original condition besides being in a Santa suit. This also makes it accessible for players that want both! This is our big way of saying thanks for playing the game. We think the NG is well below level 45 NG weapons to make all players happy (since this Zorbo and the original Zorbo will scale to level 45 starting Friday) so there's no way you're not getting another great deal like you did last year.

Moving on, there is now snow in Soluna City! Hopefully nothing's broken because we had to upgrade a lot of items from last year's snow version but it's all there. Also, int he New Releases panel, Star Captains will get access to their Frostval gifts! These gifts will unwrap themselves in the near future (Frostval right? That's when we usually unwrap them? I mean it makes sense but last year was a blur. Maegwyn feel free to confirm haha). So grab them while you can, Star Captains!

And finally, a little preview of what's going on next week.

This is one of the 3 minigames that will be the highlight of the Frostval release this year. This is on Xtreme mode. It doesn't look too chaotic there but trust me, it'll beat you up. This particular minigame is for SC only. NSC will be using a small starship for this and won't be as capable of destroying the enemy ships that are after you and your cargo.

However, NSCs WILL get to play as Galactimecha this year in a boss fight unlike any you have played against so far. All of your enemies in Galactimecha have been huge. Now you get to fight an enemy that moves and unleashes bullets of blazing punishment. I don't have this minigame in-game yet (tomorrow morning) but when I do I will try and get another screenshot in. This boss fight is awesome and a lot of fun and more impossible in Xtreme mode than the previous anything of MQ.

This Friday we'll be releasing last year's Frostval as if the wars were already finished. You will have access to the new Ticklish Zorbos on Friday with the standards stated above and I repeat that the original is gone forever so hopefully you'll enjoy the Santa outfit version.

Hope I didn't miss anything...

Bugfix Monday and Some Frostval News

Bugfix Monday: Yesterday (Monday) Korin was able to fix a blackscreen issue that had been hanging around for a while on exiting the Inn at Khaeldron.  If you try to walk out the way you walked in, the big "Leave?" button will now take you outside the door of the Inn.

Frostval News:

  • On Wednesday, the Star Captain Gift Boxes will arrive in the Holiday Shop in Soluna City with the snowfall.
  • Then on Friday, when we bring back last year's Frostval on Planet Thoh, we will NOT be re-releasing last year's Zorbos (the Shoulder Weapon and the Starship Item).  Instead, we will be releasing a 3010 version of each, with a new look and a less-strong version of the weapon specials, for Nova Gems
    • If you still have last year's version of the Ticklish Zorbo shoulder, you should NOT sell it - it will scale to L45 beginning on Friday.
  • We will be releasing a higher-level version of the "Frozen" series mecha models from 2009
  • We are looking at selecting other weapons and possibly mecha models from past years to include at higher levels also.

In Other News:

  • I keep forgetting to post on the Design Notes the Official Answer to a rumor that needs to be laid to rest. The Luck stat does NOT increase the rate of weapon specials.
  • We accidentally skipped a thread of Museum Artwork submissions, so we've got some chosen for the next new exhibit already - and please visit the Art Museum Submissions Forum  to post your new artwork!

Flavescent Friday is Here

MQ's very first annual Flavescent Friday is finally here! Visit Soluna for tons of discounted weapons and mecha models! There are even a few rare weapons from back in the day!

(Flavescent?? It's a real word, meaning a color, defined as "yellow, yellowish, or turning yellow."  A symbol of Autumn in areas where the trees change the color of their leaves.)

It was difficult to decide what-all to discount this year - we listened to you on the forums and included as much as was both reasonable and feasible.  Re-releasing rares is a tricky proposition, and we wanted to be fair to those who love their weapons that are no longer available in shops while still providing something special.  There's a lot of lively discussion on the forums and I hope you'll join in! The main purpose of this shop is to provide items at a discount, so I think we succeeded - there are a LOT of items and mecha models!

My fingers are quite literally numb - actually the tops of my hands, starting around the wrist area. This was a LOT of list-making and typing in the database to get all the prices slashed - and to keep records of the original prices for Sunday at 11AM Server Time, when the shops close and the typing begins again to put them all back to their originals!  This shop turned into what Korin called my "baby" - I consulted with him, Warlic, and Vivi plus with you-all on the forums, so I can't really take all the credit.  Except for one thing - the typing.  I did all the typing.  Vivi caught a mistake in pricing before everything went Live and I did the Zorbo dance around the dining room thinking that might be the only error.  I made a few more, as it turned out ... I think I closed a window with un-updated tabs prematurely, was what happened.  I had 8 windows open in the database with up to 20 tabs per window.  I would like to thank some people who alerted me via IRC to those post-release mistakes in the price-slashing - you would recognize them as ZanpakuTô and zeke50100 on the forums.  Thanks!

I think you should go visit the shops in Soluna to see what's there because there is no way I'm typing out lists - haha!  Geekatron chassis!  RARE AvP weapons! And MORE!

I did make L33 versions of the Khael series mecha models for NSC, SC, and NG, and an extra NG model at L42 - these have the slashed prices, and will go into the regular shops at regular price when the Flavescent Friday sale ends.

I would have liked to make some higher-level versions of non-rare weapons for this but instead what I'd like to do is to get your input on the forums of what non-rare (available in the game) weapons you would like to see get higher level versions.  (Not new specials - that would be a separate project - just higher levels.) And if we make a separate forum thread for that, the link will be on the forums!

I think I have a pretty good grasp on what non-rare mecha models you'd like to see get revivals (updated specials plus higher levels) or just higher level versions - more about that after Frostval, though.  Thoh is coming! Snow is coming!

Snow Forecast! Minar is working on some really cool weapons for the Star Captain Giftboxes!  Vivi and Minar and I had a blast last night, chillin' together - I even got a brain freeze.  The wrapped gifts arrive for Star Captains on Wednesday (and the boxes mean nothing - their specials change when the gifts unwrap later in the Frostval season)!!!!

Mogloween and Turkageddon: Korin mentioned that I should let you know that we are leaving Mogloween up until we take the Flavescent Friday shops out on Sunday (access Mogloween via Jack in Soluna City until he's gone) - and then Turkageddon will stay up until this upcoming Friday.  I know I said it was leaving earlier but we decided (Korin actually decided) that it would stay up a bit longer.

Museum! New Museum exhibits including a special "Staff Pick" from a forum member who didn't even submit it for consideration! Run West to the Art Museum to check out Bladebrawl's art and art created by Hellsoarer, JoRanManzor, Xin the Ultimate, Kid Asero, and Draco1236 !  Talk to Circe in the Art Museum to get your own replica to hang in your Starship (if you are a Star Captain) and also to find out how you can participate and get YOUR artwork in the game for people all over the world to see!  (I'm not kidding when I say all over the world - I talk with people who play in: Malaysia, Romania, the Philippines, Austria, Australia, the Netherlands, Portugal, Mexico, Brazil, Israel, Ecuador - the list goes on.)

(No more lists! I'm done writing, going to go Zorbo-Dance some more now!) Have a great weekend! I'll be around on Sunday for sure, re-pricing stuff, and checking in as usual tomorrow.  Thanks for playing!

It's time for *Adjective Weekday*!!!

Tomorrow is going to be MechQuest's own *Adjective Weekday* which will now be known as....

We will have many weapons and some mechs available at super cheap prices so you won't want to miss out. This is going on from Friday at release time through Sunday at 11AM server time. You will have over 24 hours to get all the loot you can out of the shops.

We've also updated the Art Museum (finally) with the newest pieces from you guys. It's looking good. We need more! Go to town. I always enjoy seeing your artwork. I've begun the next thread for art submissions right http://forums2.battleon.com/f/tm.asp?m=18414975 there!

As for next week, we'll be releasing the new batch of SC gifts and we're expecting a heavy amount of snow in Soluna and coincidentally an increase of holiday decorations.

Next Friday I'm also hoping to get out the reworked Frostval release from last year. The original Zorbo won't be returning but I do plan on having at least another version. We're still plotting that up.

As for our Frostval release this year, we're going to learn what Mr. Z did/is doing with the Dark Gift. I think it's close enough to say that it will heavily feature Galactimecha in a new minigame that I'm certain you'll want to try playing over and over again because the format is different. I don't mean I changed the game entirely but let's just say, so far you've only fought some pretty big and slow enemies. This will also be the first time that a NSC will be able to play Galactimecha but only SCs get to play as him after that first minigame (not as normal mech battles :P but in an extra minigame). All will feature easy, normal and hard modes based on your in-game difficulty level. I must say that Xtreme mode is ridiculous. To everyone that said the fight against the Dragonoid was easy, prepare to rip your hair out. It's really epic and I'm super proud of it. So proud of it, I think I'll add a quick screenshot next week to show you what Xtreme mode looks like. I know I haven't mentioned much about the actual story but there is one. We still don't know what happened to Shadow Claws this year but Mr. Z is up to something very shady.

Anywho, enjoy. Get ready for the shop! Now I'm back to being shoulders-deep in the minigame code x_X

Turkageddon Weapons and Fixes

Turkageddon Updates - New Weapons & a couple of fixes!

The Turkageddon '09 shops have new higher-level versions of stuff:

  • Lethal Fried Turkey Launcher L45 fs & bs
  • Reaper Wing XL38 and XL44, fa & ba
  • Pilgrim heads 32 38 44

  • Baster series (FA & BA) XL 32 & XL 45
  • L44 Turkey Cleaver OVER 9000 (FA)

  • Pop-Missiles series (fs & bs) L43
  • Turkey Cannon series (fs & bs) L38 & L44
  • Mecha Fryer series (fs & bs) L45

Vivi fixed the issue where the Perfect Ghost Trap was imperfect - the problem was actually in the ghost monster Tech Phantom 1 - now your Perfect Ghost Traps should never fail to capture all Ghosts!

Vivi showed me how to fix the problem with the persistent battle menu that was happening if you missed the '09 Mega Turk // house item Attack Turkey - so those should now be working well.

I have made progress on the male "Punky" costume with the neck coloring issues, but I haven't been able to make it exactly right yet.  It's probably one little simple thing and if I can't figure that out over the weekend I'll probably send it to Korin.

Speaking of Korin - he'll be along shortly to add some things to the Design Notes!

Few fun extra notes!

First, I'm sure some of you are concerned with the scale of the release but it's given me a lot of time to work on a big factor of the Frostval release. To give you a hint, you thought fighting Drakrylos on Xtreme mode was easy? You have no idea how hard this next encounter (not with any Dragonoids) will be. Any ideas what Mr. Z is using the Dark Gift for?

I'm actually excited for the Frostval event. Should be pretty explosive.

Another note, a lot of people have been asking me about the SCMM. I'm planning on releasing one in early to mid January so look for it there. I'll be sure to post an image when I have one.

A side note, and my final note of the day, a forum user by the name of Bladebrawl drew these for me and all I can say about them is LOVE IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT! Especially the second one.

Zorbak vs korin

My personal favorite

Love the bag style.

Anywho, enjoy your weekend. Can't wait to show you more stuff for Frostval. Later.
