The FTC & Credit Card Use by Children
The FTC recognizes the use of a credit card as one legitimate way to confirm parental consent (see http://ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/coppa.htm), especially if there is no public disclosure of information about a child.  Accordingly, use of the credit card alone is confirmation of the parent's approval of the charge of the minor.  Moreover, it is not uncommon for minors to use their parents' credit cards, with permission, to make purchases, and the fact that the purchase is made with a parent's credit card, and not in cash, is evidence that the minor is not attempting to conceal the purchase from the parent.  (See Horstman v. Farris, 132 Ohio App.3d 514, 521 ( Ohio App. 2 Dist.,1999).

Attention credit card purchasers: Effective June 1, 2008, the primary cardholder is fully held responsible for all purchases made using his/her credit card or PayPal account.
