Greetings! I have finally discovered how to appear in this small little box like Mae and Korin can over here! I've got a bunch of stuff to go over so I'll try and keep this short enough that you all get the big things but don't get bored!
First up, it's Memorial Day weekend. I'd like to say thank you to all those currently serving as well as all of my fellow veterans. Everyone here thanks you for your service and the sacrifices that you have made. There are various mecha models available in Soluna Main to celebrate the holiday.
Secondly, it's Gianna Glow's Birthday! You can pick up her E-blade, also in Soluna Main, to celebrate. Happy Birthday GG!
Next is a two part issue. We've heard a large number of you mentioning that it both takes too long to level AND that there are issues with certain areas of the game. We're working on fixing that in several ways. I'm currently working on changing overall Experience and Credits rewards, and the Exp curve, to make leveling less painful at certain points and so that you still have enough credits to replace your items and mecha at appropriate times. To help in the short term we have a quest at Tek's that grants boosted Exp rewards. This will allow you to power past certain "sticky" points until we adjust the rewards game wide. At that point the quest will go away as it won't take as long to level. (Note that the bonus exp won't show up immediatly after you get the popup. You must either complete the quest OR fight another enemy in the quest for it to apply to your Exp Bar. This is NOT a bug, this is how the game processes earned quest exp)
There are also issues in terms of overall difficulty on planets after Lagos. Most notably are Yokai and Romero but there are issues on plenty of other planets. Part of my job will be to help make the difficulty curve more uniform as you progress through the storyline so you're not hit with a giant spike in difficulty for no reason. You're supposed to have more challenging content as you level up but there shouldn't be really really easy content and then really really hard content. It should be a nice consistant increase so that you gain power as you level and the game then gets harder as a response. This won't be happening immediatly, but it is being worked on. The Exp/Credit reward overhaul will be occuring first and this overall difficulty changing will be happening as I have time over the next few months.
I also know a question plenty of you may have reading about the Exp curve being adjusted. No, we don't have plans right now to raise the level cap. This is to make sure we CAN raise it later on and you won't be hit with an even bigger wall of Exp needed or difficulty spikes past level 50. Once the overall difficulty is adjusted properly and we get the Exp Curve handled we'll eventually look at raising it. Right now though we have to make sure the game is ready to have that happen.
Also now that I have DN access, and Mae has a bit more time, you will be getting a DN post at least once a week again! We've wanted to do that for the past few months but there have been a lot of issue and it's been hard to actually get them up and posted. We're looking forward to a bunch of new stuff that's planned for the next few months and we hope you all will enjoy it!
The Traveler is back in town and he has brought a new Back Arm weapon. Here are the specials.

A New Room! The New Year is a lovely time to do some decorating. Star Captains, you are getting a new room in your starships tonight! I've started making some new items for you - there's a Hovering Goldfish Bowl that goes quite well in the Floor slot on the far left of the new room, with more hovering-style items to follow in the weeks ahead. Also new, for the Wall slots, is the Snow Globe On A Shelf. (The new part is the shelf. The snow globe was previously only available on a table as a floor item.)
As you can see in the above snapshot, there is now also a "back door." It will transport you to the mecha bay area of the starship. Thanks to Rolith for doing some backend work to make this happen for us. I got everything set up but just didn't have the access level needed to actually add the slot equip functionality.
I've been wanting to add another room for ages, and it came about because I was attempting to fix a Gremlin that happens when you have your starship set as your hometown. Sadly, the bug is still firmly in place (because the process of loading the starship as the hometown is a complete mystery to me so far - and also a mystery to Ash, to Vivi, to Korin, and even to Rolith). (Warlic, I'm asking you next!) So if your starship is your hometown, you still see an ancient starmap when you first enter. Just run out the bay doors and re-enter from Soluna East and you get your updated modern current map.
New Star Captain Missions Also On The Way! Ash is developing a fantastic new set of missions for you as we speak. More on that later.
So this week's release is still a work in progress - it also will involve an engine change so when we announce that it's live you will need to refresh your browser window.
I'll touch base with you again soon! Better get to battling because the holiday bonus xp and credits boosts will be gone after we roll.
Flavescent Friday! The Flavescent Friday shops are open now in Soluna City Main. They will stay open for the weekend, and then will disappear for another year at 7 PM EST (server time) on Monday, 22 December, so grab your rares and discounted items now, while the sale is hot!

Higher-level items added: A lot of higher-level versions of the holiday rares have also been added to the shops. Note that these use the existing specials from those years.
Flavescent Friday - December 19: Let us know on the forums what weapons and mecha models you would like to see discounted or which rares you wish we would return for our crazy once-a-year limited-time sale shop. See the first post for guidelines.
MQ On YouTube? A dedicated longtime player known as DrePlaysGames on YouTube has started a series of MechQuest videos! Here's the link to his channel . (Disclosure - he's not just a random player, but actually someone I know in real life.)
Do you have MechQuest videos, or ideas for them that you've never gotten off the ground? Let's see what you've got! Email me the link to your video or channel, or you can also use Twitter to let me know. You've got a chance to get it shared on the Design Notes. No guarantee of course - if I get a zillion responses I'll end up having to pick some randomly to highlight. They don't have to be instructional - they can be amusing or exciting or surreal or whatever direction your artistic vision takes you. What they should be to qualify as something I might share is pretty simple - they should be clean - no hax, no swearing - and basically family-friendly.
Flavescent Friday Wishlists! Start making your wishlists because we'll have a forum post for your input shortly. What's Flavescent Friday, you ask? We put items into a special limited-time discount shop for you and also choose a few rare items to include (some of those are not discounted).
Please do not make suggestions for any of the following:
Anything that has been promised as perma-rare Arthurian Eagle/Pirate Raider Other AvP war rares Crystal Asteroid rares (especially Shadow Blight/Purge)
One of us from the MQ team will set up a forums thread for your wishlists within the next day or so. For those who don't use the forums, we'll have some kind of alternative.
Now I need to wrap everything up for tomorrow's Turkageddon release! Nearly everything is done - I just need to get the mecha battles set up and the rewards shops plugged in and a couple of elements of the "outro" squared away. And finish the town interface. So I'll talk with you again soon.
(Also for this week: Ash & Lyris are working on this year's Zorbo, and Clarion is creating an e-blade for his birthday, too.)
Turkageddon is a Monster Holiday!: So of course you need a new monster in your favorite mecha battle roleplaying game, and we've got one for you in MechQuest! You'll encounter someone new to battle and you'll find yourself a new enemy. Holiday shopping is insane at this time of year, but that's not the only place you'll run into trouble!
Sorry for the delay - I had it scheduled for release last Friday and as is fitting for the holiday you might say I bit off more than I could chew... Seriously, this wound up as a mission incorporating a lot of elements that just take time to put together. It's not throwing out a lot of Gremlins or being extra-buggy or anything. It's going quite smoothly. Simply time-consuming, is all. I put together assets that already existed so you won't see a lot of new art but you will get to enjoy an all-new story that's never been told quite this way before.
I'm really excited about it and we will have everything ready for you this Friday, December 5 (and better than it would have been last week, for certain). I added in a new e-blade and an extra new enemy to help make up for the delay.
Ash is setting up a big monster and adding in a challenge version so everyone should have a blast with the major fights.
Real-Life Stuff: I cooked an enormous bird with all the trimmings for nineteen people on Turkageddon (Thanksgiving). Most everyone on the MQ team is buried in exams, too, and so I didn't like to ask for a lot of help with this release. I do apologize for the delay. The Thanksgiving prep was pretty crazy. It was part of the inspiration for this quest. I really did buy our bird in a
...well, kind of a spoiler... skip this portion if you don't want to know anything about the plot!
back alley (well, the parking lot behind a restaurant) and it really was free-range and all kinds of good things.
(I know the farmers who raised the bird so it's not as shady as it sounds!)
No more plot spoilers from here onward!
I need to give you more regular Design Notes, so let me know whether you want more of the Real-Life stuff, or more of the behind-the-scenes development, or more sneak peek screenshots or what you want to be reading here. You can let me know on Twitter using #MechQuest or drop us a comment on our forums.
Flavescent Friday Is Coming! We'll have a forums poll for what you want to see in the shops so get ready to give your input!
Clarion's Birthday Shop: Happy birthday to our newest creator of weapon art coming up on December 6. The birthday shop will open this weekend in Soluna City Main.
YouTube: Do you have a YouTube channel where you feature MechQuest videos? Shoot me an email with the link! Tomorrow's Design Notes will feature a link to the YouTube channel where you'll find one of your fellow players' original videos. Yours could be next!
I'm so thankful for all of you - thanks for your enthusiasm and for supporting MechQuest!

It is our 12th Anniversary-- and we hope you enjoy this year’s cross-game event, “Phantom of the Pixel!” The idea of cursed items crafted from dead pixels is…. spine-tinglingly awesome! The event spans AQWorlds, EpicDuel, DragonFable, MechQuest, HeroSmash, Oversoul and the original AdventureQuest. With the coming of the new mobile games, it might be too hard to have another full cross-over games event like this… so do this one while you still can!
I would sincerely like to thank you, and everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey. Thank you to you and all of the amazing gamers who login and battle in our video games. Thank you to all of you who give us encouragement and much love on the forums, twitter, facebook and all of the other ways you talk with us. Thank you for not just playing the games but contributing your creativity and clever ideas. Thank you to everyone who believes in us and supports us by upgrading or buying things in the video games—because of you we can afford to keep the lights on and the server hampsters running at full speed. It has officially been 12 YEARS of weekly, non-stop updates! THANK YOU!
Our video game’s “weekly new releases” — where we add new quests, maps, monsters, weapons & content to the game — is something that is really special about our community. AdventureQuest classic was one of (if not the) first to do it. We have been compared to long running shows like The Simpsons, Southpark, and Saturday Night Live with our game’s history of weekly releases. But there is one big difference… TV shows run in seasons and the cast and crew… take breaks. We do not. We never have. As a whole, the AE team has delivered a new video game update/release every single week for 12 years. Our games never take holidays off — the team and I actually work harder and have larger releases during them!
Because of that, I would very much like to recognize and thank the AE team — all of the artists, animators, writers, coders, the moderators, the forum staff, and all of the volunteers for their hard work. I am extremely proud of these passionate super heroes. Thank you all, too — players, team, and all the people who love us and put up with our crazy video game habits — for making Frogzards, Moglins and DoomKnights a part of our everyday life!
P.S. Ooooh… NEXT year will be our 13th Anniversary… we should up the bar and change the format. Better start brainstorming now. Open to ideas!
