Cyber Someday! Who knows what day it is in these crazy times? Log in now to take advantage of Cyber Someday! All-new energy blades by Blade and Plasma Charge, plus a new back shoulder weapon courtesy of blues, Plasma Charge, and Vivi.
The Nova Gem blade, called the "Blue Light Special," works with the Ninja uniforms to unlock its magic attack. There actually used to be a REAL "Blue Light Special" back in the Darker Ages...
The Green Starflash blade and the Blue Light Special are both Blade's artwork. Plasma Charge did the Cyber Slasher and also spent some time teaching Blade (and me) how the special magic attack is set up for e-blades. It pulls a completely separate file for the magic attack animation and uses very specific coding to make it all work together. So it's more time-consuming than a standard blade (but less complicated than a mecha weapon) - now that more of us have some familiarity with the inner workings, we'd like to start bringing you new magic attacks.
You're probably interested in the new shoulder specials. These are set up with Star Captain damage-per-turn (DPT) numbers, and if you are a Star Captain you unlock bonus specials. Specials designed by blues and coded by Vivi, so let's hear from blues:
Here´s the specials: All last til end of fight, everything caps at 50
Hit 1: +5 BtH, +2 def, HP DoT (stacking, caps at 3 times) Hit 2: +7 BtH, +3 def, heals EP with damage done Hit 3: +9 BtH, +4 def, EP DoT (stacking, caps at 3 times)
SC only: Hit 1 reduces immo res by 80, Hit 2 damages also EP with damage done and Hit 3 tries to stun.
Thanks, blues! Also a special thanks to Gianna Glow for helping test.
The Junk: 89.7 GJNK is now on the air at last! See Parma John to get a little bit of further reveal. There's still more to the story coming - and ACW0 (who you may know from the forums, twitter, or in AQWorlds) has been writing cutscene script with us, so you have a lot more to look forward to! Did you know that this story idea initially came from Blade, who has also worked up a soon-to-be-seen NPC along with some... modified NPCs...
Yeah, the team is having fun with this! I know it's taking longer than I feel like it really should, but we will probably pick up more speed as our momentum gets underway & we hit a new stride.
behind-the-scenes: Getting the radio to work... it works just fine as a Starship Item, but getting it to work as a clickable radio in a town or quest file was super-problematic. Either it became unclickable, or resulted in an endless 0% loading, and even the mostly-workable solution using the standard music loading procedure still breaks the on-off toggle switch. It must just be inherently Evil somehow!
Also I just realized that after spending many, many hours fixing the replay of Turkageddons past, I did not set them up as playable for you. Better late than never, so that'll come later with more of the Winter Holiday stuff! Mogloween will leave next week, and Tek's Birthday Party will also end for the year. We've still got Flavescent Friday coming soon as well!
Oh! before I forget: Galanoth reminded me to mention this:

Get 10% more Artix Points when you purchase using any of the following payment methods: Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, Discover, PayPal, Visa Delta/Debit/Electron PayPal, Paymentez Credit Card, ClickandBuy
What are Artix Points, you ask? Artix Points is the new name for BattleOn Game Points. They are the most important and powerful points in the universe. Forged from crystallized dragon’s breath, marbles, and a little duct tape... you can use them in MechQuest to get Nova Gems & Star Captain upgrades - and also with ANY of our Artix Entertainment games to get upgrades, memberships, special items and even other in-game currencies!
Birthday Mecha Delay: We hit a small snag in the production line, but things are rolling along again smoothly at last! We're in the final stages of testing this weekend. The credits versions will be via the merge system, so get your Silver Tokens downstairs at Tek's (you won't need more than five) - they are set up with Star Captain power for all players (higher DPT, or Damage Per Turn, than a normal non-Star Captain model) and if you are a Star Captain you will unlock exclusive specials! AND - the Nova Gem models will have special pricing: only 750 Nova Gems instead of the "normal" 1000! Coming SOON!
Have a great weekend! Thanks for playing MechQuest!
Mogloween: Soluna City is about to get some decorations - will it be spooky or festive? We'll definitely be setting up replays of years past, and we're also working on some hilarious new content. Things are getting kind of hairy.
It's been a crazy few weeks & I'm looking forward to talking with you more. Have a great weekend! Thanks so much & we'll have some new stuff for you next week!
Happy 6th Birthday, MechQuest! Has another whole year gone by already since this time last year? It seems so long ago, while at the same time it feels like it went by in just a blink. Log in now to go downstairs to the party & grab the limited-edition Mecha Models of Yore - and log in this weekend to pick up your commemorative Starship items and see what kind of Birthday Mecha we've cooked up for you!
On behalf of the entire MechQuest team, I'd like to say, "Thank you so much for playing! We love developing new content for you and we're very excited about the year ahead!"
TLaPD! Arr, me hearties! Ye'll see th' Dread Pirate Rhubarb on th' Main Street o'Soluna City an' he'll take yer ta places piratical (of the past) and new 3013 shops. Blade updated the ol' Boneyface head - festooned it wi' new feathers, he did! An' I made ye Star Cap'ns a "Sea Shanty Generator."
Things written previously & not yet shared wi' ye - we arr so busy:
Dragon*Con: It was wonderful to see so many of you - you are the reason I go! I hope to see you again (or for the first time) next year!
Artix did a wonderful Dragon*Con recap a while back, with many great photos - here's the link
I was very honored when Artix took the time during the panel to thank me and the MechQuest team. I am hoping that someone has video.
I am still sorting through over 800 mostly blurry images taken with my phone... so I have a couple of good ones to share with you that were taken by other people.
Here is a fun group shot from after the AE panel.
Dragon_Girl brought Twilly & Zorbak for a photo op, and the otter that ACW0 gave me for my birthday got into the picture as well. It's lucky that Gjappy was standing by as a Guardian Angel - that sword arm is menacing! Many thanks to Dragon_Girl for sending me this photo!
More things of note were to go here, but...
"Hi, I'm Blade. A relatively new Assistant artist (Or whatever my title at this point is) for Mechquest."
bzz...right... I need to look into his actual title... =Mae out ...bzzt
"Part of making a war like this is making main art assets so you can play in a war zone. I spent about 2 weeks working on barricades like wooden spikes and sand bags, banners, signs, graffiti and posters, war NPC's like the Korin and Practel supporters, and Practel's NPC, war rewards, and a few other things that I can't really talk about for fear that Practel and Korin would send ninjas after me if I gave up any secrets.."
bzzabeep...incoming transmission #2 from Practel failed to update. #BlamePractel zzzzt
Thanks for the update, Blade!
War. Is. Coming. Watch out for that guy... Everyone is busy with school & related things, so we've had a bit of delay - if all goes well the war will launch at the end of this month; if there are hiccups, it'll be October. Prepare yourselves...
Ok I've got to stop wrapping this up & roll you out the TLaPD release!
Dragon*Con Bound! I'm just about finished packing for Dragon*Con! We're working on a head weapon for you if you're able to make it (and we'll make a version available to those who can't, too. Did I tell you that already? I forget... ) In other news, I've got twitter working on my phone now, so watch for tweets about #MechQuest and other Artix Entertainment game news from Atlanta this week! (follow @MaegwynAe on twitter - that's me!)
beep beep boop boop
Ooh a transmission from Practel! It's for YOU! I'll talk with you more later! =Mae
Hello players! I'm here to deliver you an update on the Practel vs. Korin War! A lot of progress has been made on it, and the hardest part (dynamically loading certain things pertaining to the war; I'll explain more in a minute) has been completed.
The main objective of this war is to explore the craziness and insanity between two brothers, Korin and Practel. A few players really want a serious progression to the story (or at least one building up to why the war is occurring), and I want to explain that the reset technically has not occurred yet. So, following the timeline of the story, the war takes place before the finale in terms of lore and story. The way that it should be viewed is as follows: the player has to maintain a very serious situation and needs to be focused, while Practel and Korin are absolutely not taking anything seriously (to the point where they start to cause issues for the people of Loreon!) If you haven't already, talk to Practel in-game at Soluna City for an awesome cutscene.
One of the awesome things that I haven't seen used a lot in the MechQuest is dynamically loading certain objects and scenery into the game. For instance, if you beat the finale in-game, a party is dynamically loaded into the game at Tek's Mechs. Normally, if you haven't beaten the finale it wouldn't show up for you.
In essence, it means that we can make players who support Practel see certain things Korin supporters can't and vice versa. The plan right now is to have the players (you guys) choose a side at the start of the war to support, and can't go switching easily. If time permits, there may be a betrayal quest that allows you to switch sides.
Now, with all that random and annoying technical stuff out of the way I give you the first room of MANY in the war hub for Practel and Korin.
Nova Gems! To recap the note from Artix and add some details: If you have logged in within the past month, you have been awarded 250 Nova Gems - and 1000 additional Nova Gems have been awarded to all Star Captains! Did you just send in a payment for an upgrade & missed it? If your payment method is not instant (bank-transfer or snail-mail or other delayed types) we will be on the lookout for yours. We'll scan again (thanks to Captain Rhubarb) in 7 days and we will monitor snail-mail upgrades for the next 3 weeks to be sure you new Star Captains all receive the thank-you gift!
Toast and Coffee! With all these new Nova Gems we're giving you for free this weekend, if you weren't already saving up for something, you probably want some awesome new items to pick up. Minar has drawn & animated in record time to bring you this series. Soluna Main is where you'll find the shops with the new Toaster Arm and the coffeemaker & toaster Starship Items.
Toaster Arm Weapon: The Level 1 version has a very special bonus, which is the reason for its pricing level. If you plan to upgrade in the future, or if you are already a Star Captain, this is the version in which you should invest. When you become a Star Captain (or immediately, if you have already upgraded), the "Turbo Toaster SC100" will automatically level with you to level 100! We also have non-scaling versions at levels 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 for normal Nova Gem pricing at those levels. Vivi is coding the specials that blues designed for these as I write, and here's the rundown:
Hit 1: 40% damage, heals back HP with half of damage done
Hit 2: 50% damage, reduces stun res by 75 only for this turn
Hit 3: 60% damage, tries to stun
Hit 4: 70% damage, damages also EP with half of damage done
Fixing Things As We Go Along:
Korin has been working on the Westion areas, and he's got Chapter 1 all set up and it works fine. He says, "I've also added lots of things to make it easier to follow. I also intend to add hidden-persistent rolls to the hidden rolls in the reputation and bounty hunting quests." Basically, the arrows pointing to warp pads (areas that teleport you to a new area, like through a door for example) will spawn when you reach the proper progression within certain quests. Then, if you have met all the prerequisites, the arrow will glow, pointing you in the direction you need to go.
Arthurian & Pirate Uniforms: Forum member DarkLore, who also is active on Twitter, pointed out that it has been impossible to get the Arthurian uniform after completing the Lagos missions. I'm very grateful for the reminders, and when the release rolls live you will be able to get the Pirate and Arthurian uniforms at Laser Eye for the Space Guy (Maria5's shop) in Soluna East after completing the required Lagos missions!
In the Upcoming Weeks:
There's a rumor going around on Twitter that you can Punch Practel - and I doubt that's just going to slide under the radar. This Could Mean WAR???
You haven't heard the last from Planet Gark yet!
Did you think Liath was forgotten? Oh no. It's still being developed! There will be more to discover as time goes on.
Thank you so much for playing MechQuest! We love bringing you updates - and we've got a lot planned!
Today: Are you a Black Belt in the Energy Blades 101 Class? Go to Light's Sabers shop in Soluna City East to see the new shipment!
Blade and Zoshi, our two new apprentice artists, have begun putting together an awesome new series of Energy Blades! These are permanent in-game items for the students who have achieved Black Belt ranking, and we've got plans to add more designs & themes as time goes on.
March of the Shadowscythe WAR! Hurry back to the War Camp to catch up if you are not yet up to date with the latest events of the war, and prepare yourself for the epic conclusion of this massive conflict. Be sure to check back this upcoming Friday for the spectacular climax!
Have a great weekend, and thanks so much for playin--

A plan for the future... or is it the past? Or some kind of wild alternate timeline? Heya everyone, Plasma Charge here! As you all know the final battle between the Allies and the Shadowscythe is almost here, and from looking on the forums there seems to be quite a bit of confusion as to the state of the game after the finale of the main storyline. As such to put your minds to rest I'm happy to announce the location of the next planned saga of MechQuest; The next saga will take place on the planet Gark focusing on the Westian settlement! The basic bones of this saga have been in my mind for over a year now, and with the help of Maegwyn and other team members (past and present) it will be solidifying over **the next few weeks!
Hope you're all well, and best of luck in the battle ahead! Plasma Charge out!
**We'll be busy polishing & refining, and will bring it to you Live when it's ready!
Minar Levels Up! On the 10th of July, Minar had a birthday! We used to call him our "Artist Apprentice," but he's done so much fantastic art and animation for MechQuest over the past few years that we stopped considering him an "apprentice" long ago. Many happy returns of the day (and week, and month) to our very dedicated and extremely talented full-fledged Volunteer Artist, Minar! To commemorate this historic occasion, visit Soluna City to pick up an Ornate Energy Blade designed by Zoshi.
New Apprentice Volunteer Artists! We've got TWO new apprentices who have been arting it up in their own Undisclosed Locations: Blade and Zoshi! You may have caught a sneak peek or two via Twitter - if you want to follow them, their accounts are @BladeOfAE and @Zoshi_AE
Sneak Peek of Upcoming Addition to Light's Blades in Soluna City! This one's called the Mafic Blade, and is part of a series by Blade!
Bugfixes: There was a Gremlin in the Nemesis mecha that prevented you from moving from room to room in walkaround - that should now be fixed. Vivi figured out why the Male Star Captain uniform was popping up with a Battle Menu every time you went to sit down in class - that's also fixed. This wasn't really a bug, but I added a button so you can still access the mission from Braddock Steele after your progression in the War Camp takes you to a place where you have a "Previous Missions" button.
March of the Shadowscythe Missions Continue: Report to the War Camp for a series of new missions! Are you really ALL ALONE out there??? Loads of new animated cutscenes, and FOUR new missions! Battle ON!
Beginning of the End! The homepage countdown has hit 00:00:00 - launching The March of the Shadowscythe! The End of the Universe??!!?? Queenadent Odessa has TWO brand-new missions for you at the War Camp - complete with NEW music, NEW enemies, and NEW cutscenes!
GEAR UP! Check out the Head and Shoulder shops in the War Camp & Soluna City for a new Exclusive Limited-Time Set. Valoth's Epic Destruction Head & Shoulder work together to create combos vs. those nasty Shadowscythe enemies!
Happy birthday, Korin!
Cover your enemies with ketchup with this new seasonal rare front shoulder weapon by Plasma Charge!Screenshot courtesy of Blade.
Stay tuned for lots more exciting news ahead - and Battle on!
New Valoth's Epic Weapons! The Limited-time Epic Heads are back for just a few weeks so that you can pick up all the commemorative items to equip for the upcoming March of the Shadowscythe battles! Today the "Of Doom" colored versions of last week's Cannon hit the Arm shop, along with all-new "Valoth's Epic Cannon" arms (and some with the "Of Doom" variant). You can find them in Soluna City Main or in the War Camp.
Dealing out some Epic Damage OF DOOM!
Here is a transmission from blues with the specials:
Shs cannon , 2 hits, as always NSC (SC, NG), CD=3
Hit 1: - extra damage against SHS 20%(30,40) - Chance to reduce enemy HP to 50% of actual value. This means when actual HP is 760 it gets reduced to 380. When its 430 it goes To 215 etc. Also SHS only!!!
Hit 2: - extra damage against SHS 30%(50,70) - same as above with EP values
This thing is quite good when used very early. The EP/HP reduction is unique thats why i didnt give it specials against "normal" enemies.
Mod Shop With Valor Badge Merges! Queenadent Odessa's shop buttons in the War Camp now include the Mod Shop section. Pick up a Battle Mod to merge with the Valor Badges you earn, or use your Nova Gems to purchase powerful War Mods.
I have a lot more news for you so keep checking the Design Notes! Have a great weekend & thanks for playing MechQuest!
Hiya Questers! Today I figured I would walk you down the road of testing a weapon in MechQuest. Something awesome about MechQuest weapons is that each weapon is unique in its own way. Every weapon has a different special, different art, and different effect! Since each weapon is so unique, every weapon must be tested individually to make sure that everything is working. You can't just equip the weapon, say "This weapon looks good" and then release it because there are a LOT of bugs that come up!
For instance, I just finished a weapon this morning that is releasing later today. I would say I have 9-15 different versions of this weapon, each with little buggies. For this weapon, there are 17 different things that the team and I had to test. The beautiful thing about testing is that you can locate and pinpoint the bug, and then attempt to fix it. In the list of things the team and I had to test, we went down the list one by one, checking off the things that worked and noting the things that didn't. What happened a lot during this process was finding one bug, fixing it, doing a miniature celebration, then find another bug. Rinse and repeat.
Last night when I was working on the weapon a rather annoying bug occured. I have since dubbed it the name "Bug of Staying up Late!". Last night, with only one thing to test, a bug that literally defied the logic of math worked its way into the weapon. The bug was: 5 * -7 = 40. Which is false. 5 * -7 SHOULD equal -35. Why was this happening? I reviewed the code with Maegwyn and Vivi about 5-10 times over, and we still couldn't figure out why it was occuring. We decided to call it a night and tackle it in the morning.
Boom, 10:30AM and the bug was never a bug. The enemy had an inherent -5 boost, and the -35 was just being added to that. So in all, the code was right, and it's just I never realized the enemy had -5 to begin with. It's safe to say the game trolled me.
Well, that's it from me this week. I hope you enjoy the weapon coming tonight! It's called the "Valoth's Epic Shredder" series.
The specials are attached below :)
(FA and BA) 5 hits CD = 3 As always NSC (SC,NG)
Reduces enemy BtH by 6 (8/10) PER SUCCESSFUL HIT, AND duration is 3 turns
Hit 5: NSC & SC good chance for a crit / NG guaranteed crit
Vs. ShS Enemies: reduces damage by -6 (7/8) per hit
SC Only: -- Hit 1 reduces immo resist by 70 -- Hit 2 tries to stun
NG only - scales - 10 (to 19) 20 (to 29) 30 (to 39) 40 (to 49) 50 (to 59)
Commemorative only: General damage boost of +20(25,30%) and BtH boost of +50(60,70) against Shadowscythe and Ebilcorp enemies.
I'm actually transmitting to you from the Secret Underground Lab, which I can tell you is a far drive from my Undisclosed Location. I battled the elements to get here - Water and Lightning were especially strong, and Darkness turned out to be a factor in the end. Mission Accomplished - I'm sitting across the desk from Korin!
Specials: Here are the specials for the Automorph-P series mecha models that are now in the Star Captain Club mecha shop on the 2nd floor (Artillery Level):
Front Arm: - 1.25 times damage - -30 enemy defense
Back Arm: - 1.25 times damage - Roll for an additional hit - Hit 1 and 3 get additional a roll for -10 enemy defense
Shoulders: - Roll for an additional hit - Hit 2 and 4 get a roll for +20 BtH each, stacking
Body: - each hit gets a roll for +10 BtH , stacking - Hit 1,3 and 5 get a roll for a critical hit
Head: - Hit 1: +10% general damage - Hit 2: +15% general damage - Hit 3: +20% general damage ---> no rolls, stacks up to 45% general damage bonus
Hits 1 and 3 get a roll for a critical hit
Thanks to blues for the specials, and to Vivi for doing the coding!
SC Club "SCEM" for Levels 43 and up! With last week's Automorph-P release, many of you asked for it and other models to be released for the higher-level players. I'm going to show Practel how to add the scaling code and I'll make the new database entries for this Friday's release. Automorph-P, Dharmahp-P, and Falcon-P will the the models getting the higher levels this week!
Tweet #MechQuest: Send out a tweet using the #MechQuest hashtag with your wishlist of non-rare weapons and mecha models you'd like to see at higher levels. The weapons are the very fastest for me to put together so if you get me a list I should be able to add a TON of them!
Magitech Scythe Recolor: Plasma Charge did a nice recolor to the arm that is a huge improvement upon my original. This is the promo weapon that comes with the Artix Entertainment Artist Sketchbook, which you can get from HeroMart
Isn't that beautiful?!!? Nice work, Plasma Charge!
And finally... some big news - Diozz is working on a couple of projects for MechQuest! That's right - @AQWDiozz is doing some guest art for us! I can reveal to you that the first project in progress is ... going to be an amazing...
Automorph-P Arrives! Swing by the Star Captain Club in Soluna City any time to pick up the new SCEM - the Automorph-P series! A newly-balanced version of the original model, this all-terrain mecha is a must have for any Star Captain!

And then, of course, take it into battle!
Thrilling NEW missions in the works! Stay tuned for further transmissions. Over the next few weeks, new March of the Shadowscythe episodes will be revealed. With them they will bring new enemies, new challenges, and new rewards!
Hey Questers! Just thought I'd stop by and drop some DNs on the table for you guys. There's a lot to talk about, so let's get to it!
First up is our plan for this week. The goal is to release something for the higher level players, specifically those between levels 41 and 50. However, there is a twist! We are going to be taking suggestions for non-rare things you want at those levels this week. Tweet your wish list to us
( @MaegwynAE & @PractelAE ) with the hashtag #MechQuest and we'll see how many we can get in-game! Watch the Design Notes for shop info.
Secondly, I know some of you have been wondering where I've been for the past couple of months, and honestly, life has just sucked all of my time away! I plan on returning full-time and ready to rock and roll in one week. Get ready for a lil bit mo Practel in yo life!
Finally, shoutout to Jemini because it's her birthday! In honor of this special occasion, we are releasing a "Jemini Statue" which Star Captains can collect, just like Jemini herself! Congratulations @JeminiAE on the level up!
Well, that about sums it up for me right now. Take it easy, pilots!
BATTLE ON! The Shadowscythe themselves seem to have been aligning themselves against the MQ Team - if something could go wrong, it probably did - but we're pressing onward because WE ARE MAKING THIS HAPPEN! Ghost wrote an amazing new soundtrack, "System Overload," which I'll be setting up as a Starship item Stereo player for Star Captains for a low introductory price to thank you for your patience and your continued support.
Everything seemed like it was good to go for today's release. Received the missing background, and the finalized cutscenes. Plugged it all in, and...
When it's set to False, it won't loop. It'll play, and then it'll stop playing. Pretty simple, right? Well as it turns out, everything depends on how you define "it." "Song2" can be set to True but if what's playing is "musicTest", which is set to False, you can set "Song2" to True over and over and over, but what you hear isn't going to loop as intended, because "it" is not Song2.
Same thing with the cool sound that should play and then stop playing (except when it doesn't ever stop playing, even when you thought its Loop was at False... but Flash reorganized the component elements, so its Loop was actually still set to True). And what if you really don't want to hear sounds at all? The sound toggle button works everywhere else, so it should just be a matter of inserting a layer and plugging it in. Right? Right? ... how can that not be right?
All the components are lined up like ducks. In a row. We're now going to get them to swim together in a synchronized dance.
Korin & I worked together to figure out what was going wrong while Plasma Charge worked on testing potential fixes and pointing out issues. I figured out why the player was facing backwards and fixed that, so you won't encounter that Gremlin. We work hard to get everything bug-free and I'd also like to thank Elryn, Gibby, Practel, and Vivi for taking the time to pitch in.
As always, thanks for your support - your responses and messages always affect the team, as we read everything you say even when we don't necessarily have time to write back.
The Cinco de Mayo Weapon Shop is Live! Happy Cinco de Mayo! Pick up a Limited-Time Front Arm weapon - the Go.Oogly. Celebrate the spirit of Maypril Foolery when you attack. (Hint: Turn up the sound!)

NG Special Effects: *Good Chance for a critical hit Damage Increasing Over Time!, Increases Boost by ( was +10 every turn for 5 turns) +18 per turn for 3 turns. +18 bonus for every successful hit x 3 turns.
Enjoy the holiday! I left the Clover O.ops shop open because I read on the forums that at least a couple of people are still farming credits for it. So, have fun, enjoy the rest of the weekend, and, as the saying goes....
Maypril Weapon scheduled for SUNDAY 5 May 2013 - Shooting for noon server time!
I think the weapon is looking good! Just needs me to do a bunch of database entries (unless I or another tester finds a last-minute Gremlin) - and I also need to adjust some files before rolling the Go.Oogly series Live.
Going to get some sleep and I'll catch you on the bounce-around! With a shop and lots of nice weapons for you!
Go.Oogly! A Maypril RARE weapon is almost ready for you! I worked VERY late (it's was 5:30 AM in the Undisclosed Location when I started writing this note to you) - and, among other things, modified an old weapon with some new graphical assets and sounds to create a new theme for it. Still need to tweak the specials - everything is functioning so the coding shouldn't take me too long. Oh, and still need to decide the levels, come up w/descriptions & names, and make the database entries - sounds like a lot, but goes quickly. My plan is to give you a Cinco de Mayo Shop. Ideally I'll have it ready to open on Sunday, May 5th - should be doable! Watch this space and the homepage for updates!
The Story Behind the Design: One of our players, known as #Kale on the forums, suggested that we make an O.ops version of one of the starting guns as a Maypril fool. I didn't want to just release a weapon that only players with 5,000,000 credits could get, so I decided to do something different with the o.O part of the theme.
o.O: Gibby recently linked me to a series of photos of googly eyes stuck onto store packaging, and that fed into the inspiration for the weapon. I remembered that we released a carrot weapon - a gun that shoots little carrot flechettes that stuck into the enemy & hung there before exploding. So I thought maybe I could figure out how to convert the existing animation. It was a little fiddly figuring out how it was done, but it's always fun when you get that "aha!" moment. Then I started recoloring and redecorating it. The really fun part was figuring out how to attach the sound effects! I think you'll find it amusing.
Maypril Mecha Delayed: I know that many of you are eager to get the traditional holiday super-RARE mecha and I do apologize for not having one ready for this Maypril. Everyone is working overtime on Finale assets and although we did talk about doing a mecha, the art and animation wasn't practical to schedule in, and had to be put on the back burner. I do still want to give you some kind of foolish, fun mecha this year, but I can't promise you a date.
Upcoming Installment of the Finale Quests - Rescue Jemini: We had hoped to have this ready by Friday - we still are in need of one background, but that gives Vivi more time to code the new enemy you'll be up against (and more time to test & balance). Blues also came up with specials for an SC Challenge version, so Vivi will code that after finishing the regular version. Korin has been building the quests in "bare bones" framework so I/we can add the art assets as they come in. J6 and Minar both made some BEAUTIFUL backgrounds for this mission. Ghost did the cutscenes, which are AMAZING. I really love the facial expressions in the first one - we can hardly wait for you to see them in game! He also has a wonderful new soundtrack, and I'll be making a stereo for those of you who are Star Captains to put in your Starships (along with a bunch of new Starship Items).
NPC Enemies: During some of the upcoming Finale missions, you'll be on foot battling more NEW enemies. I've been working on some new swordfighting monster AI - not a global revamp of the swordfighting engine, but a fresh approach to creating the enemy tactics. These individual enemies are getting unique attacks which should turn out to be fun, requiring a little strategy beyond just hitting Strong Attack (or Magic) with your strongest Energy Blade. I got the Casting animation to work in the monster file I was doing earlier this week, so there's a chance I/we can apply this to make other existing swordfighting enemies do some interesting things in the future as well.
I can't say too much about the NPC enemies because it's an ENORMOUS spoiler, but I can tell you that Alina sent me a WHOLE LOT of files this evening (er, I guess that's yesterday now) and one of them is an NPC I was eager to start working on! So I did get started on converting it to an MQ-style monster in the wee hours of the morning. I learned quite a lot about how the body parts are put together due to a sizing issue when attempting to replace an existing head with the new one. I'm looking forward to doing more with this! And the top-secret NPC whose casting animation now works is one who only had a front-facing view - Minar created a side view so that the battle wouldn't look weird.
Missions After This Next One: Plasma Charge made some backgrounds that will be in an upcoming mission, and he's working on art for a new mecha-battle enemy. He's in the midst of his Leaving Certificate so he's pretty swamped with school. Vivi, Practel, and Arklen are also quite busy at their schools, so I'll add more news about what they're up to when their schedules free up a bit!
Thank you for playing MechQuest! May the Fourth be with you (and I'll update with Cinco de Mayo news when I know
The new springtime look of Soluna City is here! Practel did the decorations (I made the blooms) and he melted all the snow. And did you find who it is that has a flower tucked perkily behind one ear? (Could there be more than one?)
Please join the MQ team in wishing Lyris a happy birthday (almost missed it... I really need to change my calendar settings to alert me in advance...) Happy Birthday, Lyris!
Last chance for the O.ops: The 5000000 credit O.ops Clover Shot will be available in the shop button in Soluna City for the duration of the weekend. It is available for all players to purchase (as long as you have enough credits) and has received a buff - if you are a Star Captain, it now does the Star-Captain- powered specials.
Small bugfixes: the Arthuria vs. Pirate (AvP) war quests should now give all the credits you earn.
Working on a very exciting quest that you'll unlock at the Queenadent's War Camp - most likely we'll have it ready for next Friday (the 26th).
Rainbow Raid Incentive! As we had some server issues over the weekend and considering that I meant to publish these DNs earlier this week...
...we have extended the timeframe for the O.ops version of the Clover Shot to get its extra power. Sorry about that inconvenience! You now have until midnight Saturday 13 April - so that gives you all day Saturday to get the war meter to 100%

Story Button Revamp in progress: We are in the process of making the Story Guide easier to access and setting it up to help navigate you through all the areas of the game in a logical progression. This should make it much less confusing for those who still need to get caught up with all the quests for access to everything in the massive Shadowscythe Invasion quest chain that is developing in Queenadent Odessa's War Camp area.
To those who ARE caught up, we appreciate your patience as we continue to put together all the elements of this exciting story arc! Artix himself has written some exciting scenes - hold on to your Space Helmets, because you're in for a wild ride! The next NEW installments are under way for release in the weeks ahead.
Star Date 22 March, 3013: The Rainbow Raid Mini-War is going rather slowly, likely because you are busy fighting the Shadowscythe at Odessa's War Camp. Hurry up and head over to Braddock Steele in Soluna City (Main Street) to wrap up the Rainbow Raid and get your NEW "Clover Shot" Back Arm weapons!
The specials include credit-stealing, a Luck boost, chance for a critical hit, and "Cloverloaded" Damage Over Time. Thanks to Plasma Charge for the new animation & modifications (to an existing base weapon design) - also for the specials idea, which Vivi coded.
We also put together a promo Front Arm for the Artists of Artix Entertainment Sketchbook coming soon to HeroMart - Thyton's Magitech Scythe. Weapon drawn by Thyton, colored by Dage, and I attached it to an arm designed by Minar which I recolored. Blues designed the specials and Vivi coded them up for us.
Happy (slightly belated) birthday to Gibby! Give him a shout-out on twitter @GibbyAE
Odessa's War Camp: I'm working on a mission which I planned to have done today but time got away from me and I'm still perfecting some of the graphical elements - the quest itself isn't that complicated, but I just want it to be more polished before you unlock it. So go after the Leprescythe & the Lucky Warriors over at the Rainbow Raid while you're waiting!
Have a great weekend and thanks for playing MechQuest!
